About Us:
Portland Backpack is a Black and Brown femme led organization. We are actively anti-racist, justice focussed, and all work we plan is implemented through a womanist equity lens that centers impacted children. We are a small team of committed individuals. We describe our culture as casual and relationship-based. We encourage both positive & negative feedback and believe that work should be enjoyable. We all pitch in to support each other and are cross trained in all areas. We do all of this in service of the community and our mission.
Portland Backpack’s Mission and Philosophy:
Serving children at risk of hunger by providing food for weekends when food insecurity is highest. Engaging the community in our efforts creates a greater impact that reaches beyond reducing hunger.
The community being served by Portland Backpack is racially and ethnically diverse; it includes the families and kids of the schools served and the surrounding neighbors. We are committed to creating an accessible program with a low barrier for entry.
