Dear Portland BackPack Family,
This has been a tumultuous year for us, but also a year of growth. We appreciate all of you supporting us by dropping off food donations, sending in care cards, and holding in-home and corporate packing events.
We are currently in the final stages of our Give Guide Campaign and would love to reach our goal of raising $40,000. As of now, we are $13,036.69 from reaching this as the campaign closes on December 31, 2025. To those of you who have donated, we thank you. If you haven’t had a chance to donate to Portland BackPack, it is not too late. Your donation will help keep children from returning to school hungry on Monday morning.
The Portland BackPack Executive Board and I greatly appreciate any size monetary donation you can give. No matter how big or small, our kids, the staff at the Portland Public Schools, and their parents truly appreciate it.
Thank you so much,
Natalie Edwards
Interim Executive Director
A Message to Our Portland Backpack Community
We are aware of the recent cuts to SNAP benefits and recognize the significant impact this will have on families across our city. For many of the students and families we serve, these benefits are a critical lifeline- and when they’re reduced, hunger becomes an even greater challenge.
At Portland BackPack, our mission has always been to ensure that every child has access to nourishing food every weekend, no matter what challenges their family may face. We currently support students at 15 schools in Northeast Portland, and the need for support is growing.
If you would like to help us continue feeding local students and families, here are a few ways you can make a difference:
Donate:
Your financial contributions help us purchase shelf-stable foods for packing events, https://giveguide.org/nonprofits/portland-backpack.
Volunteer:
Join us to pack or organize at home or corporate packing events (Portland BackPack Food Packing List). Even a few hours can have a big impact. Drop off days for donations are Monday, 1-3:30 pm, and Thursday, 12:30-4 pm.
Spread the Word:
Share our missions with friends, family, and your social networks. Awareness fuels action. Together, we can make sure every child in our community is nourished, supported, and ready to thrive.
With gratitude,
Natalie Edwards
Interim Executive Director
